About this event

Mental Health First Aid Course

Join us for a in-person event where you'll learn valuable skills to support people experiencing mental health challenges. Gain confidence in recognizing and responding to common mental health conditions. This course is perfect for anyone wanting to make a positive impact on the well-being of others. Don't miss this opportunity to become a mental health first aider! Our course will be held at 550 East Coast Road, Mairangi Bay, Auckland, New Zealand.

Mental Health First Aid Aotearoa New Zealand is an accredited programme adapted under license in New Zealand through Te Pou. You can read more about the programme here.

Who is this course for?

Adults (18+) who want to learn how to recognise warning signs of mental distress in our rangitahi, and develop the skills and confidence to approach and support them whilst keeping yourself safe.

This course trains you as a Youth Mental Health First Aider. You will learn how to:

  • Understand the mental health challenges young people experience.
  • Source options for treatments and provide helpful first aid strategies.
  • Be confident to offer MHFA, enabling early access to help.
  • Apply the ALGEE - the five step action plan.

The workshop is delivered over two days by a qualified Youth MHFA instructor. Our current Instructor for this is award winning professional speaker, Julia Grace.

On completion of the two days, participants are issued access to an online portal to where they can complete a short quiz and download their personalised accreditation certificate (valid for 3 years).

Frequently asked questions

Who is this course aimed at?

Adults (18+) who encounter young people during their day to day life or work, who want to increase their knowledge and confidence in having conversations about wellbeing.

I am struggling with my own mental health, will going on this course support me?

While we encourage people with lived experience to come along to our Mental Health First Aid course, this workshop is not designed to provide support to attendees. We would encourage anyone experiencing mental distress to seek help from their GP in the first instance.

How do you make this a safe space to talk about suicide?

Our facilitators are there to ensure a safe environment to talk about some tough topics. We do recognise that discussing suicide can be difficult, and have safety protocols in place, however we also ask that participants do what they can to keep themselves safe during these discussions.
