This is a 2 day in person training.
Barry Taylor's suicide prevention and response training through TaylorMade Training and Consulting is deeply rooted in his extensive professional background and personal journey with mental health. Barry brings over 30 years of experience working with individuals and communities across various cultural, socio-economic, and gender identities. His training equips service providers with practical tools and strategies to identify suicide risk, intervene effectively, and offer support to those in crisis.
While Barry's training pays particular attention to the specific needs of men—who statistically face higher rates of suicide—his approach is far more comprehensive. He addresses the complex factors influencing suicide risk among Māori, Pacific Islanders, LGBTQ+ communities, and other vulnerable populations. This culturally sensitive approach helps participants understand how different communities experience and respond to mental health challenges, promoting more effective and tailored interventions.
One unique aspect of Barry's training is his openness about his own struggles with depression and his personal experience with suicidal thoughts. He shares how these experiences have shaped his work, adding a layer of empathy and authenticity to his teachings. By incorporating his lived experience, Barry fosters a compassionate environment that encourages participants to engage deeply with the material and to better understand the real-life impact of suicide.
This combination of professional expertise and personal insight makes Barry Taylor’s workshops invaluable for anyone working in mental health, social services, education, and community sectors, where understanding and addressing suicide risk is critical.
