Super Charge your professional and personal growth with our Ririki Haumaru Wānanga!

Our Ririki Haumaru wānanga invites you to connect and experience the Omni Essence of Ririki Haumaru, a transformative wānanga designed to connect deeply with mātauranga Māori (cultural knowledge), tikanga and kawa haumaru (safety practices), and your own unique growth journey. The essence we refer to is the bridging of our past, present and future exploring the generational gifts of atua, tūpuna and mokopuna for a safe and flourishing childhood for all mokopuna.

Ngā taonga tuku iho:

The taonga for your kete:

  • Weaving, unravelling, and reweaving mātauranga Māori frameworks for haumarutanga
  • Buffing, etching, and detailing your self-confidence and ways of knowing to connect with te ao Māori and mātauranga Māori
  • Moulding, sculpting and revealing your kurahuna; descended from your tūpuna; to unlock your tuku ihotanga (heritage) and whakarerenga (legacy).

We will:

  • Whakaohooho: Awaken the wisdom within
  • Whakaoreore: Motivate and inspire action
  • Whakaoraora: Mobilise to heal and protect
  • Whakaohorere: Cultivate conscious awareness and responsibility

About us

Ririki Haumaru | Safekids Aotearoa is the national lead organisation for haumarutanga (unintentional childhood injury prevention and mokopuna safety promotion) in Aotearoa. We are dedicated to keeping tamariki safe and reducing the incidence and severity of preventable injuries. We do this through research, policy, advocacy, health promotion interventions, workshops, wānanga and partnerships with key national and regional stakeholders.

The service weaves the following five aho (threads), together to influence behavioural, social and system change.

  1. Policy, Advocacy, and Legislation
Providing expertise and advocacy on policy and legislative matters related to unintentional child injury prevention, with a growing emphasis on Te Tiriti, equity, and kaupapa Māori approaches.
  2. Research, Data, and Evaluation
Utilizing and sharing whānau, community, and academic knowledge to guide child injury prevention efforts, with an increasing focus on mātauranga Māori and kaupapa Māori approaches.
  3. Community Engagement and Mobilisation
Equipping community partners to support whānau in home safety and gathering place-based mātauranga through wānanga to enhance injury prevention initiatives.
  4. Digital Engagement
Creating and sharing digital content that resonates with Māori and Pacific whānau to foster social, sentiment, and behavior change.
  5. Sector Engagement and Coordination
Collaborating with whānau, community, and sector stakeholders to guide child injury prevention efforts and collectively influence system changes for improved outcomes for tamariki.

Through its multi-layered approach, Rirki Haumaru | Safekids Aotearoa is uniquely positioned to drive and support change across individuals, whānau, hapori, and sectors by fostering deep community engagement.
