About Our Master: Dr. Rae de Lisle, MNZM, is one of New Zealand's foremost piano pedagogues. As the former Associate Professor and Head of Piano at the University of Auckland, she has trained numerous award-winning students, including John Chen, winner of the 2004 Sydney International Piano Competition. Her students have achieved success in major national and international competitions, such as the Lev Vlassenko Australasian Piano Competition and the Perrenoud Foundation International Piano Competition.
A respected adjudicator, Dr. de Lisle has served on juries for prestigious competitions like the Dublin International Piano Competition and the Gina Bachauer International Junior and Young Artists Competition. Her groundbreaking PhD research on focal dystonia has gained international recognition, resulting in presentations on injury-preventative piano techniques. She is the author of the acclaimed book Fit 4 Piano and creator of the online course Exploring Piano Technique. In 2015, she was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for her contributions to music.
