Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga and Christchurch Archaeology Project are hosting the Ōtautahi Festival of Archaeology at Te Whare Waiutuutu Kate Sheppard House in honour of New Zealand Archaeology Week.
Christchurch’s heritage organisations, archaeology companies and museums have partnered to offer a fantastic range of archaeology themed activities.
Activities include: excavation, art activities inspired by Māori rock art and nib fountain pens, badge making, story time sessions, testing your knowledge of Māori sites in Ōtautahi, and dressing up as an archaeologist.
Talk to professional archaeologists about their artefacts and work. Canterbury Archaeology Project and Underground Overground archaeologists are displaying artefacts discovered on recent excavation sites in central Christchurch. Canterbury Museum will have some fascinating collection items onsite.
Thanks to our sponsors Charlies, there is a free juice pouch for all visitors.
Organised in partnership with:
Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga, Canterbury Archaeology Project, Canterbury Museum, Pūtaringamotu Riccarton House & Bush, Underground Overground Archaeology, Te Uaka The Lyttelton Museum, Department of Conservation, Christchurch City Libraries and Kā Huru Manu.
