BIOGRAPHIES
Ethan Braun is a composer known for experimental approaches to sound and live performance. Braun’s work braids improvisation with algorithmic and computer-assisted compositional models, as well as sampling, in music that harmonizes the conceptual, formalistic, and emotional. A frequent collaborator in transdisciplinary contexts, Braun has worked with choreographers, visual artists, and musicians across various media, with projects presented at venues such as Kampnagel Hamburg, CalArts REDCAT, Rewire Festival, Swiss Institute NYC, and LUMA Arles. Braun’s concert music has been performed at Roulette Intermedium and Carnegie Hall in New York, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the Dutch National Opera.
Hermione Johnson is a pianist and composer from Tāmaki Makaurau. She is best known as an improviser, and with this, she has been a significant force in the Aotearoa experimental music scene. Her playing centres largely on extended and prepared piano techniques, focusing on the timbral qualities of the instrument.
