We’re searching for New Zealand’s best V60 pour-over.
In proud partnership with HARIO, we’re hosting NZ's first ever V60 Championship. A multi-round elimination tournament, competitors will duke it out on stage to be crowned champion of Aotearoa’s best V60 brew.
Prizes
Our champion will take home a Mahlkönig X54, a Moccamaster, cash, and a La Marzocco prize pack. Cash prizes and La Marzocco prize packs will also be awarded to other top competitors. Plus, there will be spot prizes throughout the night for both competitors and spectators!
Rules and Regulations at a glance
Format
- The competition is a multi-round elimination tournament.
- Competitors will brew coffee simultaneously using a Hario V60.
- Competitors have ten minutes to complete and present their brew.
- Our three to four judges taste each brew to determine each round’s winner/s
- The winner/s of each round advances to the next stage.
Accessories and Tools
- Grinders, kettles, scales, V60, carafes and filter papers can be provided.
- Accessories such as decanters, thermometers, sifters, air blowers, WDT tools, and water dispersion aids are allowed.
- Paragon chilling rocks and anything similar are not allowed.
- The competitors can bring their own hand-grinder, but own electronic grinders are not permitted for health and safety reasons. A Mahlkoenig Omnia will be available for use if needed.
- The competitors must use a genuine Hario V60 and filter (will be provided if needed).
Regulations
- Only ground coffee and water are permitted as ingredients.
- Competitors can bring their own water (full guidelines to be sent via Email).
- Competitors are required to prepare a minimum of 150g of brewed coffee.

Frequently asked questions
Everyone will be using the same coffee, supplied and roasted by us. Practice beans will be sent out a few weeks before the event so please be sure to fill out our questionnaire upon completing the registration.
You're allowed to bring your own V60, filter paper, kettles, and hand grinder. Accessories such as decanters, thermometers, sifters, air blowers, WDT tools, and water dispersion aids are allowed. Electric grinders are prohibited to bring for health and safety reasons.
The official electric grinder we will be using is a Mahlkoenig EK Omnia supplied by Machine LTD. There will be open sessions available at Machine LTD to anyone competing in this event - more information will be sent out upon registering.
Yes! Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will be supplied by us. Keep in mind that we reserve the rights to refuse serving alcohol to anyone who appears to be intoxicated. Pizzas will be available to purchase from our friends at Bari's Pizza on site!
